what's been going down

1. INTERSTELLAR. Caught the 2h50min flick with chongray and it's worth a watch in the cinemas! Really intriguing and a great feast for the eyes and mind.
2. MOCKINGJAY PART 1. Watched this one with the cousins even though I'm not a great fan of the hunger games (because I don't favour jennifer lawrence a huge lot) but it's not a bad lead up to the final installment. Guessing that if you've read the books it's okay to skip this
3. SOLE SUPERIOR 2014. I'll have a separate post on this but to round it up: pretty glad I went even though I didn't dig the atmosphere when I first went in
4. RED BAND SOCIETY. Remember when I said I'd talk about the first episode? Heh well I've covered 8 episodes and while I won't say I love the show I still enjoy it!
5. GOTHAM. When the trailers came out for it on warner/fox I was really looking forward to it but because of the 11pm showing I didn't manage to catch the premiere. I've procrastinated til now and finally caught the pilot ep and woah it's a really twisted show. I'm not too sure if I'll continue on the series because it's rather dark but I'd like to see bruce wayne's progression whee
6. GRADUATION LUNCH 2014. I spent many days envisioning the morning of how grad lunch would go and it really went nicely for me. originally wanted to blog about this tonight but my photos are lost in my sister's computer so once I retrieve them, the post shall be up!
7. COMPUTER GAMES. Nerdynummies did some treats based off costume quest and when I saw the clips of the game I freaked out because it looked so adorable. Told chongray about it and when Os ended I created a steam account and he gifted the costume quest 1 & 2 bundle to me hehehe (: I've completed the main game for costume quest and stepped into cq 2. Hmmm having mixed feelings over the sequel and much prefer the original game! Also got introduced to battle block theater too which is a pretty nonsensical and cute time killing game hehe.

And that about rounds up the more interesting happenings since I last updated.

I also attended the first day of ngee ann poly's red camp which was really quite enjoyable. Although when I got home that evening after all the programmes had ended, mum told me that my grandmother had passed away.

The previous night I remembered that my consent form for rc11 hadn't been signed yet so I decided to leave it on my dad's bedside table for him to see in the morning. When I got out of the room I realised the living room light was turned on, something pretty unusual, and that my dad wasn't in his room so I went down to ask what was up.

Dad said that ah ma was in the hospital. He was waiting for news from my uncle (who was with grandma because they live across the highway in malaysia). Got him a cup of warm water and said goodnight.

The next time I saw him was two days later at around 730pm in the town of parit raja at my grandmother's house. Straight after prom my siblings dropped annabel home and then we were off to malaysia.

I'd never been to a traditional chinese wake before.

The first wake of any kind that I attended was my uncle's earlier this year and they opted for a christian one for him so I really had no idea what to expect this time.

They always ask you to pay your last respects or to go say your last words to the deceased as they lay in the coffin. I never know what to do because what can you do? First, you have to not cry. And that's already hard enough.

Because my family's christian, we didn't partake in the rites the monk was performing and we just sat by the side. I watched the flies cling onto the golden cloth they hung over a frame just outside the house, the assistant collect the joss sticks and place them in the holder 2 at a time, the monk sprinkle water with a stalk of plant over ah ma's photo. It was ceremonial and I felt very little which was great because I was doing as much as I could to distract myself from the loss.

Ah ma knew how she wanted things done.

She wanted a short wake so as not to disturb people and she wanted to be in her favourite blouse.

Before she was cremated, I went to see what blouse she had on.

It was black and it had colourful alphabets all over it.

When I got back to singapore with the siblings, I searched through all the family photo albums to find photos of ah ma and myself. There weren't many photos, in fact there were only 2. Aside from the 2 photos, I managed to find photos of an occasion where ah ma wore her favourite blouse.

I'm sorry I didn't get to talk to you much while you were still around ah ma. Thank you for all the love you've showered me and all the sacrifices you've made for us. I don't think I'll ever be able to fathom all the hardships you've been through but I'm glad they're all past you now and that you're no longer in pain and constantly exhausted. I know you're watching me now. I won't do things that disappoint you.
