The Book

Before I proceed to participate in my YouTube marathon, I thought I'd spare a couple of minutes to tap down a consolidation of the thoughts floating around my mind.

Firstly, I'm glad I went for supper after CF today.

There's always the great temptation to cross the bridge home whenever the group is at the shell kiosk bus stop waiting for the arrival of the ride to supper. Especially so when you've been in school since the A.M and your hair AND face decide to slowly disintegrate into a huge oily mess. But, for the second time, something kept me hanging around.

The 9 (minus one after 10 minutes) of us were at rail mall today and even though I didn't get any food, I was well fed by good company and conversation. With the exception of a small group of regulars, the people who come for CF change every week so there's constantly chatter in the air. Namely: "hi, I'm Isabella and I'm in year 1. you are?", where you are in life/how badly are you struggling in school, secondary school experiences.

I'm one of those weird people (OR AM I THE ONLY ONE???) who loves filling in their particulars on forms and can do it mindlessly for hours on end so yes I guess you could say I'm more than willing, in fact I find it enjoyable, to share the same things about myself to different people. And not to mention that unlike forms, people actually respond.

Going beyond just introductory speeches of sorts, I've been blessed to be able to delve into deeper topics with this group of people as well. Of the importance of bible study, the scripture and having a community like ourself. (:

Bus rides to and fro also sparked talk of museums and literature. Which probably wouldn't have happened if not for Neil Gaiman. Which brings me to number two: the book.

Thanks to our 2500 word essay, the classmates and I spent much of our day freaking out about margins, cover pages, printing and photocopying. But okay, there's non-sarcastic thanks that needs to be given to the assignment too. Following submission, I had to grab some things including a couple of DVDs from co-op and then pass one of those discs to ardelle who was in the library. While waiting for her to find us, sam, amanda and myself decided to roam round the library and *deng deng* I came across a Neil Gaiman book that was on display on the 'immediate loan' shelves. Disclaimer: I've never read any of his books before but WY had mentioned him a couple of times before and the first few lines of the book were quite gripping so what to do but to snag it right.

We struggled a little with trying to borrow the book (curse you faulty machine) but after we succeeded, we explored the CD section and I'll admit, ngee ann's selection is pretty good.

Anyway, back to the book. This thing is heavy. Like 504 pages thick + hard cover kind of heavy so there was no way it was going into my bag. This leads me to having to carry the thing around and I'm pretty sure it's been said before but a book is truly a great accessory.

Now that a handful of people have asked me about the book, books in general, my reading habits/preferences etc; I feel that it's only right to actually not only read but complete reading this book. Which is really stretching my limits considering how my reading streak has dipped and stayed low (or even at zero) for years and that this thing is due one day before my one and only examination of the semester.

Hmm. Maybe tonight's gonna be the last YouTube marathon in a while...
