about two weeks of worrying led up to our chinese new year celebration performance. this year was our first year everybody in drama was involved and the first time an instructor took charge. needless to say it was really hectic and crazy and we were changing characterization all the way till the morning of the show. i'm glad that we pulled through and we put up a decent performance in the end (: it's my last performance with only the drama club before i graduate but i have faith in the juniors!
annabel and i took the roles of paintbrushes and ms tnee had the idea to gel our ponytails up so that it looked like we were literally, paintbrushes. then she said we looked like dickheads HAHAHA. anyway we had to shower after school ended and it was pretty nice, yelling at each other in the bathroom from cubicle to cubicle (sounds extremely sexual)
chongray sent me home and after a couple of hours of lounging at home, the cai family set off for malaysia. didn't really do much except talk cock with the the siblings and by evening we were back in the quiet town of parit raja.
we had our reunion dinner out at a steamboat/hot plate place nearby. malaysia has loads of these two storey shophouse buildings that are in the middle of nowhere so it was quite enjoyable since most of the stores were closed, felt like we had the whole place to ourselves! headed for some objective shopping afterwards with my mum before we went back 'home' which is where my grandma and relatives stay.
uncle brought my brother and i for some roadside ramly burger, my first, and it was amazing. i'm quite glad that it isn't available in singapore because it'd be much less special. nearing midnight, our uncle asked us if we wanted to catch some fireworks so we made our way down to his friend's place. it isn't exactly legal to set fireworks off but then again, just don't get caught. it was so thrilling to be so close to the real deal firecrackers and fireworks. we also got to relased a 孔明灯 (!!!)
/day one/
mornings in malaysia are always greeted with fresh spicy rice + crispy chicken from the hawker nearby. along the years i've learnt to eat more chili with my rice and i would say i'm quite tolerant of spiciness now! proud of myself hahaha. headed out for visitations at the usual two houses before we were back 'home' for laksa lunch. we brought along our laptops so i watched an episode of criminal minds chongray recommended, cried because it was so sad, then concussed for two hours.
when i woke up at around five, relatives decided it was a good time to fly their kite so we all went out of the house for a little fresh air. sister and i took a detour to sit at the swings for a bit before joining them at the plot of land near the oil palm trees. the mud that covered the land was cracked and you could see traces of wild boar footprints. scary.
had our last dinner there before setting off for our night road trip back to singapore (: got ourselves some magnum and saw random fireworks nearing johor hehe
/day two/
food was kept simple and good. watched avatar while playing go fish with the cousins until they left and then i was left with the adults who were absolutely intrigued by avatar. this just shows how adults are too caught up in the business of work to lose themselves in simple pleasures such as watching movies
/day three/
started the day at 0630 because i was on sound duty and practice could only happen on the morning before service. headed for some good indian-muslim lunch with the family (minus sister) at west coast before heading home to clean butterball's cage. i really love butterball although i wish he would allow us to pet him a little more before running off ): napped in the afternoon again before heading off to third uncle's place for our big family dinner!
my aunt, little cousin and his sister came over to our place earlier so we walked over together. when we arrived, little cousin was supposed to have his dinner first but he refused to eat unless i fed him so i felt a bit mumsy for a while. soon, everyone arrived and we feasted and talked before some of us decided to hide in the room to watching we're the millers
my gosh two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old watching an M18 movie
it was reasonably funny and we had a good time laughing together (: it was nice to have everybody there for dinner for once and i can only hope we have these more often!
ohana means family and family means watching rated movies together
/day four/
met chongray at around nine at clementi near the en bloc hdb flats to gather some research information for art. i'll probably be back there a couple more times after trial shots today. feeling a little more inspired for my piece now hehe. we spent about an hour or so there before we went to kfc for porridge breakfast! we're crazily untraditional and i was telling him how after my Os, we should really do hawker hunting.
went back to his place for a bit before taking the train down to raffles where he was meeting a guy to sell his board. then we headed back to clementi and chilled at his place for a bit before he dropped me off to meet the chickitas. it's the first time in four years that all seven of us had a good meal together although admitedly i was exhausted and really wanted to head home
